The Character Experiment: Experience 1
The first virtue that I have decided to focus on is commitment. Commitment is “the ability to make decisions and follow through on them.” Sometimes I tend to be very indecisive and I also tend to change my mind a lot. Due to this fact I am focusing on being committed so that I can be able to decide something and stick with it. My plan for growing in this virtue is to think clearly before making any decision and then sticking to them. I’m not going to let any problem stop me from sticking to my plan. I also plan on not making any promises that I can’t keep and to follow through on all the promises that I do make.
The next virtue that I would like to focus on is orderliness. Orderliness is “being neat and living with a sense of harmony”. I am certainty not the most organized person and would benefit greatly from being organized. My desk is filled with book and papers and you can’t even open the drawers. Not only is it important to have my room and school work organized but also my thoughts. I plan on being organized by putting everything away after I’m done with it and by having a place to put each of my things. I also plan on keeping an agenda with where I write all my homework, and day to day things that I need to do to maintain my organization.
My third virtue is to focus more. This virtue is extremely important to succeed in life. To focus on something is to dedicate your full attention to it and avoid any distractions. I think that it’s really important to focus in school, I feel that if you can’t focus effectively, you can’t think effectively. I get distracted really easily and lose track of time a lot. Homework’s that should be done quickly usually take me twice as long when I’m not focused. My plan for growing in this virtue is that every time I do an assignment or an activity, to completely clear my head and only think about what I’m doing.
